Reading first-week transfer cohorts without vanity averages

A simple way to present peer-transfer activation so board packs stay honest.

Average “transfers per user” hides whether most new customers never send a first transfer at all. For wallet and remittance products, we prefer a binary first-week transfer rate by acquisition cohort, then a secondary view of transfer value only among those who transferred.

Present both charts side by side. Leadership then sees reach and depth separately. If reach is weak, inspect onboarding and recipient-add flows. If reach is healthy but depth is thin, inspect incentives, fees, and trust messaging — different owners, different fixes.

When we run Cohort Readout Retainers, we freeze this pair of metrics in month one. Changing the definition mid-retainer makes every prior month ornamental. If the business truly needs a new finish line, restart the baseline and label the break in the note.
