Stop counting installs as activation

Installs answer a distribution question. Activation answers whether a customer completed the first financial action your licence and unit economics care about.

In Malaysian digital banking and wallet work, that usually means a funded account, a successful cash-in, or a completed first transfer — not a finished registration screen. When leadership decks mix the two, marketing receives credit for product friction, and product receives blame for acquisition quality.

A workable definition names the action, the time window (often seven days from KYC pass), and the exclusions (staff accounts, test wallets, incomplete document uploads). Write that sentence once, put it at the top of every cohort note, and refuse charts that quietly revert to installs.
